You Are Not Your Age
You Are Not Your Age
You Are Your Energy

There is a new conversation popping up all over social media. This conversation is about radical life extension via a variety of approaches and going under a variety of different names. In Silicon Valley it is sometimes called 'The Singularity'. In other places it's called ‘Transhumanism'. And in others yet it comes under the heading of ‘Epigenetics’, which is a relatively new field heralding the idea that consciousness is more powerful than genetics.
So, what’s all the buzz about? What are these strange and unfamiliar sounding words pointing to?
Dr. Deepak Chopra was sharing about these ideas several decades ago. I first listened to him in his audio series ‘Magical Mind, Magical Body’. Then, in his N.Y. Times best seller ‘Ageless Body* Timeless Mind’.
I’m someone who's been very curious about our human potential for health, happiness and longevity since I was quite young. That innate curiosity compelled me to seek out various esoteric teachers of eastern healing wisdom. So it was no surprise to me that it was an East Indian who first popularized the notion in the West, that we are not our age, but rather, we are our energy.
The ancient sister sciences of tantra, yoga and ayurveda seem to have been very aware of the mind-body-energy connection for thousands of years, but with the arrival of modern medicine a few hundred years ago (?) these rich esoteric teachings were pushed aside in favor of western scientific modalities.
In the early 1990’s I had the extreme good fortune to attend a week long training hosted by Deepak Chopra called 'Mind-Body Medicine & Ayurveda'. Midway through the week Dr. Chopra asked the crowd the following question.
“If there was one word to describe what underlies all illness and aging what would that one word be?
Words came flying forward out of the crowd. My fellow attendees were popping like popcorn on a hot skillet, every one of us like little school children hoping to land the exact answer our esteemed teacher was looking for. But nobody did. Deepak respectfully and patiently wrote each answer on the whiteboard next to him, but in that crowd of almost 400 people no one came up with the one word he had in mind.
Without peeking any further, can you guess what that one word was?
The word was ‘Accumulation’
Once we heard ’the word' an audible “Of course" filled the room. It was almost as if we all somehow knew it all along. The wonderful and amazing Dr. Chopra went on to educate us in all the various ways accumulations of all kinds, slow our operating systems and take them down. As I pondered this concept I too realized that this was not really new for me. I had just never framed it that way before.
With this idea in mind, our health, happiness and longevity may have a lot more to do with what we are able to let go of, than it does with what we may think we need to acquire. And one of the most important things we may need a little encouragement to let go of, is our ideas about the inevitability of aging.
I love what cell biologist Bruce Lipton, Phd has to say about this…
‘Our beliefs become our biology’
Let’s believe in rejuvenation and high level wellness and make it a reality.
